Fee structure
- My standard fee is $200 on a sessional (50 minute) session.
- Where report writing is required, additional time is charged for to cover the extra time involved
- I also do contract work for a number of organisations (Employee Assistance Programmes) and ACC.
These do not involve the payment of top-up payments
My Practice
I work with adult clients and adolescents. My work with adults encompasses a wide range of circumstances, difficulties and conditions.
I deal with articulate and inarticulate adults: male and female; abused and abusers. Most find me easy to work with and decisive in getting to the core matters and assisting in putting plans of action in place.
Bryan Wright is a psychologist who has an impressive history in meeting with individuals, couples and families to ascertain what is happening in their lives and in developing plans for overcoming their difficulties.
In my experience, reflective counselling only goes some way to finding and working on concerns. As a psychologist I am able to ascertain what the difficulties are and with the cooperation of all concerned, to put an intervention in place.

Qualifications

Experience
I began my career as a Psychologist in 1977 in the then Department of Education Psychological Service in Levin. I later moved to Christchurch.
I have been in private practice since 1993 and have extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of psychological, behavioural, developmental and emotional disorders of children, adolescents and adults.
I have had a long association with the Christchurch Polytechnic Student Health centre.
I have been a Specialist Report Writer for the Family Court which has taken to a number of towns and cities around the country.
I have a long association with ACC for both accident rehabilitation and sensitive claims (sexual abuse) work. I work with victims of abuse and but also with perpetrators. Both have a need for specialist intervention of the type I provide. I have previously had a long experience working within the Family Court.
About Me
- I was born in the Catlins where I lived until my late teens. I worked as a science technician before developing an interest in the study of psychology. I taught briefly in intermediate schools prior to undertaking advanced training as a psychologist.
- I have a relaxed manner and am comfortable working with a wide range of clients, including clients of both sexes, from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds, religious persuasions and sexual orientations. Some of my clients are initially tentative as they approach me but that tentativeness dissipates as they respond to me – they become more relaxed, can see the benefit they can gain through sessions and are keen to return.
- I employ a variety of interventions depending on the circumstances. These include cognitive behavioural techniques (CBT), schema therapy, narrative therapy, EMDR and mindfulness.
- I undertake both short- term work with clients and also longer interventions as appropriate.
